About me:

I have worked for TCH Leasing for over 4 years. I am married to my wife, Chrissie, and we have 2 amazing boys both at primary school.

I left school at 16 and went to work for NatWest, so that means I have been working for 30 years – OUCH! 

What is your business motto?

Something my Dad told me when I started working for NatWest as a 16-year-old, straight out of school, ‘work hard and play hard’.

What is the best quality of TCH Leasing, and how is it different to other Leasing companies?

We have a very personal approach and would much rather speak and meet with customers than simply deal with them online or over the phone. That's the same whether you have a fleet of 5 or 500. We also look at any deal on a case by case basis and give a decision quickly, as we have a flat management structure.

We are also fair when it comes to end of contract damage – one of the biggest issues in the leasing industry.

What is your approach to work/life balance?

I think it is really important when you are not at work to switch off and enjoy yourself, in my case, with my family.  

I am fortunate that at TCH I can go on holiday and we have the people in the business who can help my customers whilst I am away. I would hate to work for a company where I needed to take my phone on holiday with me and answer emails.  

What is your approach to networking?

I enjoy it, I like meeting new people and growing my network and would like to do more of it. 

Who has inspired you most in your business life, and why?

No one in particular, although there have been some people along the way that I have thought ‘well if they can do it, I certainly can!’

I did read a book when I started in sales that I still have now by Richard Denny called "Selling to Win," which gives you the tools to be successful in sales. 

What is your proudest achievement in business?

Many years ago I worked for a large leasing company and I was the top-performing sales executive. It was awarded to me at a big sales conference, I got a really nice bonus and got to drive a free car for 6 months! I have also exceeded my target with TCH every year (bar one) and still on course to do the same this year. 

What motivates you?

Firstly personal pride in doing a good job and doing what you are paid to do. Also, a goal for the family is to get a VW Campervan so we can travel around the country before the boys get too old. I love my holidays in Greece, but I think there is plenty still to see in the UK.

We went away in a campervan a couple of years ago and loved it.

If you hadn’t got into the leasing business, what would you be doing instead?

Prior to getting into the leasing industry, I started my career with NatWest, so I imagine I would still be in the banking sector.

What time of day are you at your best, and why?

I am definitely better in the mornings. I used to go to the gym really early and that set me up for the day, that stopped last year when I ruptured my Achilles tendon, but I need to get back to the early morning gym sessions. 

If you could have a coffee with anyone at all, who would you pick and any?

For so many years my golfing hero was and still is Ernie Els, so I have to say Ernie. I bet he has many great stories both on and off the golf course.

How do you wind down after work?

With 2 boys (both at primary school) it is difficult to get much free time. I do go to the gym 2 -3 times a week to stay healthy. Pre-children I was a single figure golfer and also had a season ticket a Manchester United, but the family is my priority now.
