The Government are Extending Plug-In Grant until October 2018

There’s good news for anyone who is looking to purchase a new low-emissions car or van, as the Government has announced that is extending the Plug-In Grant.

The Plug-In Grant applies to any new electric or hybrid car and currently provides up to £4,500 towards the cost of a new low-emissions car and up to £8,000 towards the cost of a plug-in or electric van.

The scheme was only due to last until April 2018 in its current capacity but the Government has announced that it will now stay in place until October 2018. Following this, the Plug-In Grant will be in constant review and will continue in some form until at least 2020. The scheme is an important part of helping to get more low-emissions vehicles on the road.

In the first three months of this year, 13,327 new electric and hybrid cars were registered in the UK, which is a year-on-year increase of 16%. This brings the total of low-emission vehicles on UK roads up to nearly 150,000.
